Match abandoned without a ball bowled
- ICC Champions Trophy Warm-up Matches
- 2013 season
- Played at Edgbaston, Birmingham (neutral venue)
- 30 May 2013 – day/night (50-over match)
Not the ideal start to the mega tournament, but this was just the first of the warmup games. Hopefully, there will be better weather when England take on New Zealand in the 1st ODI tomorrow. Do join us for all the action. For now, cheers and bye..
4:05 pm local time: Unfortunately, rain has had the last laugh. The match has been abandoned.
3:50 pm local time: Rain has returned with a vengence and so are the covers. This is frustrating for everyone.
3:25 pm local time: The rain has stopped, the covers have been removed and the umpires are having a look at the conditions. There will be another inspection at 4 pm.
3:15 pm local time: We were set to have an inspection around this time but unfortunately it has started to rain again at Edgbaston. Covers are firmly back in place.
2:45 pm local time: All the covers have been removed from the square. The umpires are apparently not entirely hapy with the conditions. There will be another inspection at 3:15 pm.
2:15 local time: Sky Sports has tweeted that the inspection will now take place at 2:45 pm. By all accounts, the conditions look very wet out at the centre in Edgbaston.
2:00 pm local time: Some covers have been removed, but the pitch is still underneath it. The supersopper is removing all the excess water. Some Pakistan players are out in the centre and are having a look at the outfield. Inspection scheduled in 30 minutes time.
1:15 pm local time: There will be a pitch inspection at 2:30 pm. Russell Arnold has tweeted that conditions are a lot brighter now and the ground staff are busy with the mop up job.
1:05 pm local time: It has stopped raining at the moment. The umpires are having a look at the conditions. The covers are still in place though. The cut-off time for a 20 overs a side game is 6:45 pm.
12:35 pm local time: Hello, and a big welcome to one and all as the Champions Trophy makes its final appearance. England will host the tournament for one final time before it it is replaced by the Test championship in 2017. The tournament proper begins on 6th June but there is a host of warm up encounters before that. Sri Lanka will take on Pakistan in the first of those at Edgbaston, Birmingham today. Unfortunately, it has been raining continuously since morning and we might have a delayed start to the proceedings. Stay tuned for further updates..
